Day 01 Arrive Kolkata

Welcome to India, you are in Kolkata – the City of Joy. Meet our representative at the airport who would transfer you to Hotel Oberoi Grand (or similar).

Later half of the day, after lunch, you will be taken out for a half-day city excursion that includes Victoria Memorial Hall, Flower Market, Town Hall and Tagore’s House. Victoria Memorial is a museum and one of the major tourist attractions of Kolkata built in marble between 1906 and 1921. It was built in the memory of Queen Victoria and was designed in the Indo-Saracenic revivalist style.

Considered as the largest flower market of India, Kolkata’s Mallik Ghat is a beautiful riot of colors. A short walk in the flower market next to the Hooghly River is certain to perk up every sense. The market pulls more than 2000 sellers every day and carries a history of over a century. The market has been running since 131 years as a one-stop destination for all your floral needs. From tulips to roses to orchids and more – you name it and you get it here.

Town Hall in Kolkata was built in 1813 in Roman Doric style by the architect and engineer Major Gen. John Garstin. It was established to make it a venue for social gatherings for the Europeans. Up next is Tagore’s House (locally known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari), built in the 18th century and was the ancestral home of the Tagore family. Rabindranath Tagore was born here and spent most of his childhood days.

Come back to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 02 Kolkata to Bagdogra to Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a hill station in the state of West Bengal located in the Lesser Himalayas at an elevation of 6700 ft (2042.2 m). It is most popular for the lush green stretched out tea estates, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain is one of the major attractions of Darjeeling.

Check-in to Hotel Elgin (or similar) for overnight.

Day 03 Darjeeling to Maneybhanjyang to Tumling

Have an early breakfast and take a visit to Tibetan Refugee self-help Center (Tibetan settlement). You will stay here for an hour or so before heading off to Maneybhanjyang (37 km – 1 hour). Located 28 km away from Darjeeling town on the border between India and Nepal, Maneybhanjyang is a small transit town located at 2150 m above sea level. It is mainly popular as the favorite trekking point that begins the trail to Sandakphu as well as to your next spot, i.e. Tumling.

You will be taken for a trekking to Tumling to an altitude of 8000 ft and the road is stretched to 11 km. The nature is off course yet beautiful here, giving you trekking goals and craving for more. You will be staying in trekker’s hut overnight.

Day 04 Tumling to Kala Pokhri

Your trekking continues, as this day you will cover a stretch of 8 km through a Nepalese village called Jaubari to reach Kala Pokhri located at 10000 ft. Kala Pokhri is a Himalayan hamlet located inside the Singalila National Park and lies halfway between the steep final stretch of the trek from Gairibans to Sandakphu.

You will be staying in trekker’s hut after dinner.

Day 05 Kala Pokhri to Sandakphu

Get up early, have your breakfast and head off for trekking to Sandakphu located 12000 ft. The distance is 4 km, sounds easy? Wait till you have the last 2 km left, because that’s the toughest part to cover and would take the maximum time and effort.

On arrival, check into the trekkers hut. You may take a stroll around the place to explore nature at its best. The place will not be very crowded for obvious reasons of the accessibility and the difficult trekking route. Have your dinner early and call it a night.

Day 06 Sandakphu to Rimbik (last trekking spot) to Darjeeling

Wake up early to experience the breathtaking sight of sunrise along with the spectacular view of changing colors reflecting over Mt. Kangchenjunga range. Pray for a sunny day to make yourself lucky enough to catch a glimpse of mountains of Nepal, namely – Everest (the highest) and Lhotse (4th highest).

Have your breakfast and gear up for the last round of trekking of the trip that will start downhill all the way to Rimbik. The stretch is 16 km, and you would reach approximately during lunch.

Have lunch and get driven to Darjeeling (85 km – 3 hours). Check-in to your hotel on arrival. The evening is at leisure or at your own to explore the local eateries for some popular delicacies. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Dekeling.

Day 07 Darjeeling to Bagdogra to Kolkata

You will have an experience of a lifetime – the divine sunrise at the Tiger Hill over Mount Kangchenjunga. Treat your eyes with the mesmerizing panoramic view of Mount Everest and Mount Kangchenjunga together. It is worth watching when the peaks of Kangchenjunga are illuminated before you can see the sun rising from lower elevations. And when the sun rises, it looks as if it is evolving not from behind the mountain range, but from the base while the mountains surround the sun from all over. It is a scene to behold forever in your mind’s camera.

On the way back, you will be visiting the Ghoom Monastery. Also known as the Yiga Choeling, the monastery is known for its huge 15-feet (4.6m) high statue of Maitreya Buddha. The Mongolian astrologer and monk Sokpo Sherab Gyatso built the external structure of the building in 1850.

Come back to Darjeeling, have your breakfast and get transferred to Bagdogra airport to catch your flight to Kolkata. Overnight at Kolkata.
