The Deccan Peninsula has been an important terrain in the Indian history. Home to iconic cities and towns, steeped in forgotten stories, the Jewels of the Deccan: Mumbai to Mumbai is a perfect way to get familiar with this portion of the Indian subcontinent.

In this 8 days /7 night’s tour, starting from Mumbai, you will travel through the different parts of the Deccan Peninsula. On the trip, you will visit Bijapur, Hampi, Hyderabad, and other important historical cities of the region. Sample the world-famous Hyderabadi biryani, or watch weavers weave the colorful Ilkal and Khun fabrics.

The Jewels of the Deccan takes you on a magical journey, familiarizing you with the beauty and glory of the Dakhini culture.

Day 01 Board the Deccan Odyssey at Mumbai - on to Bijapur

Welcome to the luxurious Deccan Odyssey.

You will board the train in the evening from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus after completing the registration formalities.

After the registration, you will receive a traditional Indian welcome along with a refreshing drink.

You will be transferred to your cabin for the night. Dinner would be served on board.

Day 02 Bijapur

After a good sleep and a scrumptious breakfast, you will arrive at Bijapur, the historic capital of the Sultans of Deccan. The place has been an important part of Indian history and is a celebrated city of the Indian subcontinent.

Post breakfast head towards the iconic Gol Gumbaz. A structural triumph, it is a mausoleum built for Adil Shah, the Sultan of Bijapur.

Next on list is Jumma Masjid, one of the earliest mosques built in India, and Malik-e-Maidan, the largest medieval cannon in the world. After that, your Bijapur tour would take you to Mehtar Mahal, and then the impressive Ibrahim Rouza. It is believed that the impressive minarets of Ibrahim Rouza were a source of inspiration for the Taj Mahal.

Return to Deccan Odyssey for lunch. In the evening relax in your cabin, as the train snakes its way through the beautiful terrains of the Deccan Plateau. The next stop on the trip is Aihole and Pattadakal.

Day 03 Aihole – Pattadakal:

This morning is dedicated to exploring one of the largest temple complexes and the ancient settlement of the Indian Subcontinent - Aihole, and Pattadakal. After early morning breakfast, you will start for Aihole. Also referred to as cradle to Indian architecture, the area has more than 70 rock-cut temples built by the Chalukyan Kings. The tour would head towards Pattadakal, located on the banks of Malaprabha River. The architectural style of the area reflects the combination of Dravidian (South Indian) and Nagara (North Indian) style of architecture.

For lunch, return to Deccan Odyssey.

Post-lunch, you can either rest at your cabin or choose an optional tour to Guledgudda village, well-known for its traditional Ilkal and Khun fabrics. While touring, you can always pick up these colorful fabrics to take back home.

Apart from that, you can explore the rock-cut caves and temples at Badami.

Dinner and overnight stay at Deccan Odyssey.

Next stop, Hampi.

Day 04 Hampi:

As the Deccan Odyssey rolls into the Hospet, you will get a chance to explore the historical city of Hampi. Your tour commences after breakfast on board.

After you get down at Hospet, you will take a short drive from the historical site. On the Hampi Tour, do stop at the Narasimha statue, and the mustard Ganesh located at the foothills of Hemkuta Hills. Soak in the beauty and grandeur of the region, before you head towards the Virupaksha Temple and the famed Vittala Temple. These landmarks are well-known for their architectural splendor.

Lunch would be served onboard Deccan Odyssey. Post lunch; disembark to continue the tour of Hampi. In this phase, the tour would take you to the Royal Center at Hampi, the citadel built by the Vijayanagara Kings. Visit the Queens Bath, the Stepped Tank, the Mahanavami Dibba (Great Platform), the Hazara Rama Temple, the Queens Enclosure with its Lotus Mahal, and the elephant stables.

After a memorable day at Hampi, board the Deccan Odyssey to continue your journey to Hyderabad.

Day 05 Hyderabad

Enjoy an early breakfast, as the train moves into Hyderabad, the beautiful city of the Nizams.

Your Hyderabad tour starts with the Golconda Fort, the epitome of Nizami class and grandeur. The seat of power for the Qutub Shahi dynasty, explore the stunning architecture of the fort. Return to Deccan Odyssey for lunch and some rest.

Alternatively, you can choose to take a shopping tour. Spend your morning shopping and follow it up with lunch comprising of famous ‘Hyderabadi Biryani’. After a sumptuous lunch, head towards the iconic Falaknuma Palace. Sip in the exquisite cup of tea, while exploring the beauty of the palace. Later on, head towards the iconic Charminar built by the Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. According to legends, the Sultan vowed to build a mosque, if the plague wrecking the city stopped. It is believed that his prayers were heard, and to commemorate the eradication of the epidemic the Sultan built this iconic structure.

The trip to Charminar is not complete without shopping at the Laad Bazaar. Explore the local market for exquisite jewelry and the famous Hyderabadi Pearls.

For dinner, return to the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 06 Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Named after the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb, Aurangabad is an important industrial town of Maharashtra. You have to make a stop at the city to visit the stunning Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city has a deep connection with the Mughal dynasty, and it can be seen in the several historical monuments built around it. Some of the popular iconic monuments of the city are the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Makbara, and the city's 52 gates.

After lunch at Deccan Odyssey, you will be taken on a scenic drive to the Ellora Caves. One of the iconic rock-cut caves is one of the finest examples of Indian architecture. Among the 34 caves in the vicinity, twelve are Buddhist caves, seventeen caves are dedicated to Hinduism, and the remaining five are Jain. Among these caves, the Kailash temple is a stunning example of rock-cut architecture.

After an interesting expedition, head back to Deccan Odyssey for lunch and some well-deserved rest. In the evening, enjoy the ever-changing landscape of Maharashtra, while sipping in the refreshing cocktails fixed by the bartenders on board, followed by dinner.

The next stop on the trip is Jalgaon.

Day 07 Ajanta Caves

After breakfast at the Deccan Odyssey, get off the train and drive to the Ajanta Caves. Another rock-cut structure; the caves reflect the magnificence of the Indian architecture.

Later on, come back to Deccan Odyssey for lunch. Post-lunch resume your tour by visiting the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. At Gandhi Teerth, you can learn a lot about this important figure in world history.

You can enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening, enjoy your a sundowner before dinner.

Day 08 Mumbai

This morning marks the end of your Deccan tour. After early morning breakfast, you will disembark at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai.
