On your arrival in Bagdogra, you will be transferred by road to Kalimpong. After checking-in at the hotel, you have the rest of the day free to relax and unwind or explore the area near your hotel on foot.

Kalimpong town, situated at an altitude of 1250 meters (4101 ft.), is the headquarters of Kalimpong subdivision in the district of Darjeeling. This hill station, in the state of West Bengal, is a part of the Mahabharata Range or Lesser Himalayas.

After having breakfast, you will proceed to visit the local attractions in Kalimpong. Firstly, you will visit the Mangal Dham Temple, a temple dedicated to Guruji Shri Mangaldas Ji, whose shrine is situated in the lower prayer hall of the temple. Sacred to Lord Krishna, this temple boasts a ballroom-like large prayer hall that has eight vibrant and life-size dioramas depicting the Krishna Leela.

From here, you will proceed towards Deolo Hill. The town of Kalimpong is situated between the Deolo Hill and Durpin Hill. This hill offers a spectacular view of the Teesta River and Reli Valley as well as the Kalimpong Town.

Next up is Dr. Graham’s Homes school, an 119-year-old establishment that was founded by a Scottish missionary Dr. John Anderson Graham in 1900 after he settled in Kalimpong. The school houses and offers education to children from all over India, refugee kids from Tibet ad Bhutan as well as students from Cambodia, Thailand, etc.

Then, you will visit the Durpin Dara or Zang Dog Palri Monastery located on Durpin Hill. This is a fairly new monastery, constructed in 1972 and offers an incredible view of the town, tea gardens, and the Reang and Teesta Rivers.

A visit to the cactus/orchid nursery of Kalimpong will be spellbinding as you will be introduced to around 2000 varieties of simple and exotic cacti.

Afterward, you will return to the hotel for lunch. Post lunch, you will check out of the hotel and start heading toward Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. You will check-in to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for leisure and relaxation. You can roam around the town, try different cuisines on MG Road or enjoy a ropeway ride from Deorali to Tashiling and back. After breakfast, you will embark on a half-day sightseeing tour to explore local attractions in Gangtok. You will visit Rumtek Monastery, which is the largest one in Sikkim. It is at the epicenter of the Karmapa Controversy, a lengthy court battle between the monks of two rival religious organizations.

Next, you will visit the Do-drul Chorten, a stupa that houses religious objects like the complete set of holy books called Kangyur. 108 prayer wheels (Mani Lakhor) surround the stupa.

Then, you will proceed to visit the Tibet Museum, also known as the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (Indian Institute of Tibetology). The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso laid the foundation for this institute in 1957. It promotes and sponsors extensive research on art, culture, history, religion, and language of the people of Tibetan cultural area which also comprises of Sikkim.

You will also visit Enchey Monastery, perched on a ridge above Gangtok. It is nestled within lush woods with a spectacular view of Gangtok town. Built in 1910 on the site of the hermitage of the great tantric saint, Lama Droop Karoo, who was renowned for his powers of levitation, this monastery houses the monks of the Nyingma Order of Tibetan Buddhism.

The next attraction is the handicraft center or Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom. You will see hand-painted masques, traditional paintings, wooden dolls and puppets, conventional themed carpets made on handlooms, and choktse – traditional holding tables. The flower exhibition center will be the last spot before you return to your hotel. This center holds numerous flower shows, showcasing collections of extremely beautiful flowers like blue Venda orchids, chrysanthemum, celosia, Paps, etc. Once you return to the hotel, the rest of the day is free for relaxation.

Today after breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and leave for Darjeeling. Upon arrival in Darjeeling, you will check-in to the hotel and will have the rest of the day free for relaxation or exploration, as you wish.

Darjeeling is one of India’s prime hill stations and famous for its immense natural beauty, quaint climate, and soothing ambiance. This town has an elevation of 2042 meters (6700 ft.), is situated in the Lesser Himalayas and overlooked by the world’s third-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga (8586 m / 28,169 ft.). The widespread tea plantations and the 140-year-old Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or Toy Train make it famous among tourists.

Today, after having a fulfilling breakfast, you will leave to explore the Queen of hills – Darjeeling. You will visit Tiger Hill, from where one can observe a beautiful sunrise, Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest. Then you will visit Ghoom Monastery. Built in 1875, it is the oldest one in the hill town.

Afterward, you will return to the hotel for breakfast. Then, you will explore the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute which was established in 1954 after Narendra Dhar Jayal was inspired by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay after they summited Mt. Everest in 1953. Tenzing Norgay was appointed as the 1st field training director of the institute. The institute offers numerous courses from basic to advance, search and rescue and a refresher course.

From here, you will proceed towards the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP) that houses animals like snow leopards, red pandas, Himalayan salamander, grey peacock pheasant, and Tibetan wolf.

Afterward, you will visit the Tibetan Refugee self-help center, established in 1959 by the Tibetan refugees who escaped Tibet along with the 14th Dalai Lama. The refugees produce and sell several handicraft items like carved wooden items, hand paintings on cloth items, knitted gloves, carpets, bags, and aprons or handmade leather jackets.

After lunch, you are free to explore any other tourist spots you have in mind or simply set out to experience the local cuisine and culture. Overnight stay is in Darjeeling.

After having breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and proceed towards Bagdogra International Airport to carry on with your further journey.
