Tawang monastery tour

Tawang is a mystical land blessed with scenic landscapes, mesmerizing mountains, small villages, monasteries, and a lot more. I had a desire to explore the rich Tibetan culture so I planned to visit the most famous place, Tawang Monastery. Tawang Monastery is an impressive spiritual place for all people who are searching for tranquility and want to explore Buddhist culture. Located in Arunachal Pradesh, Tawang Monastery is the biggest monastery of India and was founded in the year 1860-61 AD. by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso. Visiting the monastery itself is a refreshing experience because the road trip journey to the monastery is filled with picturesque views. From outside, the monastery looks like an exquisite mini kingdom giving it the royal and magical vibes surrounded by snow-covered mountains. The entrance of the monastery is grand, as you can see is huge doors painted with mandalas and several colorful buildings. The interior of the monastery is just mind-blowing with displays of stunning statues and art. Every section of the monastery is fascinating to explore. There is the main assembly hall known as “Dukhang”. When I entered the main hall, some rituals were going on and the entire ambiance was very peaceful and relaxing. Dukhang is a three-story building that houses mural paintings of various saints, beautiful wall art but the main attraction of the entire monastery is the 26 ft immense statue of Buddha sitting in peace. The gold-colored statue was decorated very beautifully and is a sight to behold. What increases the charm of the monastery is the courtroom where religious dances and other prominent ceremonies are held regularly. In the monastery around 300 monks live at present who are followers of Buddha and his teachings. Tawang Monastery is also a center for young Buddhist monks where they can come and learn about the significance of Buddhist culture and are also taught English, Hindi, and all about the monastic way of life. Whenever you are here, you should see the museum with a great collection of art, manuscripts, books, etc related to Buddhism. The young monk came with us as I explored each part of the monastery. He was patient and informed me about their culture. I was impressed to see the dedication they put to manage the monastery. It was very clean and well maintained. It is a divine place to do meditation and reconnect with yourself. I also meditated for an hour and felt so blessed to be there. Undoubtedly a place worth visiting as it is an important landmark in Tawang. The ideal time to visit this monastery is from March till June and then from September till October. But if you decide to visit in January, you can witness and be a part of the most famous festival Lasar, a 15-day long celebration with lighting lamps and doing prayers. Do visit this place for a devotional journey.
