Must see forts in india

India is famous worldwide for its history and architecture and it is one of the main reasons that India is the most famous travel destination among the tourists. There are many unique forts with a vast history. The forts and monuments are India's treasure because earlier they were royal residences of the kings with temples, mosques, museums inside them but now some of them are converted into royal hotels. Today these architectural marvels are open to the general public and in my opinion, everyone should visit the magnificent forts of India that have different stories of their own to tell and represent the historic legacy of India very nicely. So here are some of the most famous forts in India that you must visit during your trip to India.

Red Fort, Delhi

It is the most notable landmark of the metropolitan city Delhi. Red Fort was constructed very beautifully by the Shah Jahan during the 17th century. The Fort is made with red sandstone and has many other important buildings inside that include Moti Masjid, Diwan-i-Aam, etc. Red Fort is our country's pride where on every independence day and republic day, the Prime Minister of India addresses the country and raises the Indian flag. If you plan to visit this fort, do attend the Light and Sound show which is held in the evening. The show is mind-blowing and showcases the history of Fort.

Amer Fort, Jaipur

Amer Fort is the most stunning and massive fort you will ever see. It is the best tourist attraction to explore in Jaipur. Its architecture depicts the Rajput style and has different gates and courtyards which is very interesting to see. I had a lovely experience visiting Amer Fort with my friends. We took an elephant ride to ascend the fort which was a great experience because you can see the Beauty of the fort while enjoying the elephant ride. You can do so much sightseeing and have amazing experiences within the Amer fort. The main highlights of the Fort are the Diwani-Aam, Jai Mandir, Sukh Niwas, Sheesh Mahal, and more. While we were exploring Sheesh Mahal it started raining heavily and the entire place looked even prettier. We spent some good quality time there and then took a Jeep ride to descend the Fort. If you wish to know about the history of the fort and Jaipur, you should attend the evening show of Light and Sound. I think the Amer Fort is a great place to witness the sunset in Jaipur. I have so many memories and would love to visit here again.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Mehrangarh is an unmissable landmark of Jodhpur. It is an impressive fort above a hill and covered by blue colored houses. The view of the fort is stunning and has a series of palaces, museums, and restaurants inside which makes it remarkable. While walking through the fort, you will see many art galleries that showcase different aspects of the jodhpur past. There is also a male sitting area known as Darbar Aam ( Common area) where the men used to solve their disputes and problems. You can also see so many one way windows where women witnessed all the events hiding from the men. From the fort, you get a splendid view of the whole blue city. If you love Rajasthani Culture then you must visit this fort because there is so much to see and you will fall in love with its extremely beautiful architectural design.

Agra Fort, Agra

Whenever we think of Agra, we remember the gorgeous Taj Mahal but let me tell you that Agra Fort is also a very important place to visit in Agra. Earlier, Agra Fort used to be the royal house of the Mughal emperors but later the capital was shifted to Delhi. It also houses magnificent palaces, mosques, and audience halls which are simply mesmerizing. I loved the peaceful atmosphere and my favorite place inside the Agra Fort was Bengali Mahal which has some hidden buildings too. Your trip to Agra would be incomplete without visiting Agra Fort.

Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan

Also popular as ‘Golden Fort of India’ because it is situated amid the Thar Desert. The fort has a unique style because it is a blend of both Rajput and Islamic style. At present, it has numerous shops, restaurants, hotels, old mansions, and temples. Most Havelis (Mansions) are now converted to Museums. The majority of these Havelis have intricate carvings on them which I found very unique. I also visited Jain temples inside the fort to seek the blessings of God. From the rooftop, you can enjoy the scenic views of the city.

You should visit these forts on your next trip to India to understand the culture of India. There are many more forts in every part of India which have great history and stories. Organize your next trip to India as soon as possible for unforgettable experiences.
